Static electricity is the cause of attraction of a negatively charged with a positively charged body. It is only possible in the case of insulators. When an ebonite rod is rubbed with fur then the ebonite rod acquires a positive charge as it loses electrons an the fur acquires a negative charge as it gains electrons from the ebonite rod. And as a result they attract each other because, they both wants to become neutral or stable by sharing charges.
