Chinese confiscation and destruction of British opium was the cause of the First Opium War between the British and the Chinese from 1839–1842.


In 1830s, the smuggling of opium on the Chinese coast increased which increased the usage in China. This not only socially effected the country but the silver trade of China was also effected that they faced an economic downfall. Hence, they tried destructing the British opium but eventually failed.
