This is due to phototropism
when plants detect light a hormone called AUXIN is synthesised at the tip of the shoot, auxin diffuses to the shady side of the plant and the concentration of the hormone here stimulates the cells to grow longer on the shady side of the plant resulting in the appearance of the plant to bend towards light.
