When we overeat or eat more spicy food,the stomach secretes more HCl in order to digest food.An over secretion of HCl in stomach causes acidity in stomach.Antacids are basic in nature.They react with acids in stomach and neutralise it causing relieve from acidity.Thus a doctor recommend an antacid to a person suffering from acidity.
