what causes lighting during thunderstrom short answer question

Lightning is caused by an electrical discharge of electrons moving very quickly from one place to another.

The negatively charged particles in the sky come down and the particles with positive charge rise up forming two layers of positively and negatively charged particles. When these particles come in contact, discharging takes place and spark of lightning is produced.
