What causes movement of food inside the alimentary canal? Define the movement

The movement is Called as peristalsis.Its an enzyme free movement.... that means no enzymatic activity take place.w E swallow the food and it reaches to stomach after passing from alimentary canal.... involves contraction and relaxation of alimentary canal

The movement of food in the alimentary canal  is called Peristalsis.
It is the involuntary constriction and expansion of the canal in order to push the food down,into the stomach.

The reverse of this process is called Antiperistalsis.
