Answer:

A dune is a mound of sand formed by the wind, usually along the beach or in a desert. Dunes form when wind blows sand into a sheltered area behind an obstacle. Dunes grow as grains of sand accumulate. ... A large dune field is called an erg.

there are no rocks, hills, or large trees in deserts to obstruct the path of wind. there is also no larger sand grains. these sand grains are very small in size and can be easily carried away by wind. the wind carries sand and the sand particles falls at a place and accumulates. this sand dune grows larger when more wind brings more sand. this is the formation of sand dunes.
