what causes the destruction of ozone layer
Answers
Causes of destruction of the Ozone layer are:
- The Chlorofluorocarbons
- Pollution by air traffic
- Radioactive substances
- Nitrogen fertilizers
- Air pollution
The Chlorofluorocarbons:
Scientists have found that continuous release of synthetic chemicals mainly Chlorofluorocarbons into the Atmospher plays a major role in the depletion of ozone layer.
CFCS are man made synthetic industrial chemical compound containing chlorine, fluorine and carbon atoms. They an widely used as cooling fluid in the refrigeraton air-conditioning and as cleaning agents, fire extinguishin fluids, spray canes, car propellants and in insulating for So, there is a worldwide demand.
Pollution by air traffic:
The environmentalists are worried that the nitrogen oxide emitted by large number of Jet Aircrafts, Supersonic transport aeroplanes may cause destruction in the ozone layer resulting disastrous effects on flora and fauna.
Radioactive substances:
Radioactive minerals like uranium, thorium, etc. are also responsible for ozone depletion. These minerals are used in nuclear power stations and nuclear explosions.
The radioactive waste of nitrogen oxide is produced in large quantities which is added to the stratosphere resulting into the ozone depletion.
Nitrogen fertilizers:
Chlorine, methyl bromide used in agricultural land to disinfect by fumes are also harmful for ozone layer.
Air pollution:
Air pollution due to smog, the combination of auto exhausts, ozone and sulphur dioxide like London smog and the leakage of a lethal gas from the Union Carbide Factory at Bhopal, the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, Forest Fire in Sumatra Island of Indonesia and China had a serious effect on the ozone layer.
