Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox.

Stress doesn't technically cause shingles, but it can cause your immune system to weaken — and a weakened immune system can put you at risk for shingles.

Shingles is a reactivation of the chickenpox virus in a body causing a painful rash with blister. Shingle is also known as Herpes Zoster. It is caused by Varicella Zoster virus. This virus also cause chickenpox, after the chickenpox, it lies inactively near spinal cord and brain in nerves tissue. Year later the virus may activate and cause shingles. Early treatment can reduce shingle infection though it's not a life threatening condition but can be very painful.
