Answer:

the hardness of water is caused due to the presence of calcium and magnesium ions furnished byy therir water soluble salts i.e bicarbonates ,sulphonates and chlorides . Temporary hardness is due to presence of bicarbonates of these ions i.e Ca(HCO3),Mg(HCO3).

Permanent Hardness is due to presence of sulphates and chlorides of these ions i.e CaCl2,MgCl2,CaSO4,MgSO4.
