• What change did you notice in the reading of the thermometer?
(mercury level)? if you keep it in the hot ,and cold water seperately.

To measure temperature during fever a thermometer is used. When put inside hot water the mark of mercury increases according to the heat it receives with time and stops increasing when it doesn't note any change in temperature.

When inserted in cold water the mark of mercury decreases.

It is mainly inserted into the mouth below tongue, or below arm.

A thermometer has a mercury as a fluid inside it. It is a good conductor of heat and doesn't get stick to the wall of thermometer bulb.
