The water of hydration is released from the solid crystal and form water vapour. The hydrated form of medium blue and sent dehydrated form light blue.

The formula of Copper sulphate penta hydrate is given as :


CuSO₄.5 H₂O


The compound is bluish powder and contains water of crystallisation .

The water of crystallisation present in the compound is responsible for imparting the blue colour to the compound.


When this is heated , the water of crystallisation is lost . This results in the loss of the blue colour also.


The compound becomes dehydrated and turns to white powder .
