What change occurs when Agcl is doped with Cdcl2

A CdCl2 doping leads to an impurity defect and vacancy defect in the crsytal. Two Ag+ ions are replaced by one Cd2+ ion. The Cd2+ ion occupies the site of one of the Ag+ ion and a cation vacancy is created at the site of the other Ag+ ion.

amansinghar: When AgCl is doped with CdCl2 a cation-vacancy defect is created, i.e An Ag+ ion from the lattice is absent from its position due to presence of adjacent Cd++ ion.
aarvikhan2: same
amansinghar: Yaaaaa same but a little bit difference between both answers

● Answer -
When AgCl is doped with CdCl2, cationic vacancy defect is produced.

● Explanation -
- When AgCl is doped with CdCl2, each Cd++ ion replaces two Ag+ ions to balance the charge.
- As a result, overall 1 cationic vacancy is created per CdCl2 molecule added.
- This is called vacancy defect.

Hope this helps you.
