After his house burned down, Zan's new friends' abundance of concern for him changed his perspective on life. It moved his heart and helped him accept his new life. He was thankful for his life, his new folks,  and his beloved cat.

Reuniting with his cat helped him overcome his grief, and tragedy seemed to fade away. He was at his house a month later, watching them reconstruct it. But this time was different because he was not alone. He met two new people. It took a fire to get him to stop focusing on his insecurity and start opening up to all the lovely people around him. He was sitting there, watching his house being rebuilt, when he realized that his life had to do the same thing.
