In the novel 'The Blue Umbrella' by Ruskin Bond, Ram Bharosa is the evil and selfish character I dislike most.

This novel illustrates the story of a little girl named Binya.

  • The eleven-year-old lives among the hills and loves roaming around the valley and admiring nature.
  • On her visit to the city, she immediately falls in love with a blue umbrella and gets it by exchanging with her lucky tiger-claw pendant to a group of city picnickers.
  • Later when she went back to her village, she let the children and Bijju hold her umbrella for a while. But the greedy tea-shop owner, Ram Bharosa sorts out unfair means to get his hands over the blue umbrella.
  • He was a very selfish and cunning person who used to let people avail his products like tea or other goods on credit. Later he used to charge them extra or take away their valuable belongings in case they weren't able to pay him.
  • Ram Bharosa thus applied unfair methods to steal Binya's beautiful little blue umbrella.

Hence, Ram Bharosa is the character I dislike in The Blue Umbrella because of his cunning, and greedy nature.
