The male sex Cells or the male gamete are of two types.
One is X and other is Y

Female eggs have only X chromosomes.

When a female egg is produced, the eggs reaches the fallopian tube where it may get fertilized.

When the female eggs fertilizes there are two possibilities that it may get fertilized by X male gamete or Y male gamete

If the fertilization is
X + X = XX
There is a female zygote formation

And if the fertilization is
X+Y = XY
There is a male zygote formation.

So, XY chromosome pairing refers that the person is male.
