George Bernard Shaw or more commonly known as GB Shaw was born July 26, 1856, in Dublin, Ireland. He was an influential playwright, critic and polemicist whose work still resonates in the world of literature, western media and politics.

He struggled financially for a long time as he wrote some of his works. He later took up a job as a theater critic for the Saturday Review and began writing his own plays around 1895. One of his famous play Pygmalion was later made into a film twice. He won an Oscar for the screenplay he wrote for the first version of it.

He was an avid critic of the politics and the world around him as he lived through the World War. He brought a sense of realism in English language. The word 'Shavian' is used for someone who expresses their ideas like GB Shaw.

He wrote more than 60 plays during his lifetime and his work spans 36 volumes between 1930 and 1950. He eventually won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1925.

He died on November 2, 1950 at the age of 94.
