What comparisn has been used to describe the flowers? ''DAFFODILS''
Answers
Answer:
The Daffodils represent, eternal life. As one of the ambassadors of Spring, the “first flower” as it were, for Wordsworth, they symbolize the reemergence of life after the death of Winter. It is important to know this collection of poetry by Wordsworth is known as “The Lucy Poems”. “Lucy” was a young woman that William had fallen in love with, and much to the tragic lore of the poet, she was swept away by death abruptly in her youth. I speculate she was 15 or 16, better scholars can correct me on those details. However, the Daffodils not only represent springtime, and natures renewals, most poignantly they represent Lucy coming back, in spirit form. Many of the Lucy poems deal with her in this form, as a spirit or ghost returning from the grave, that the poet himself; set eyes upon in the springtime after her death the winter preceding. Returning to the very place they had perhaps consummated their love, in nature, both Wordsworth and “Lucy” meet again. This is why the poets of Wordsworth’s period are sometimes called “mystical poets”. No doubt the fusion of nature with the afterlife, coupled with the tender longings of Wordsworth’s poet heart in love, make for some of the most romantic poetry ever written.
