Hello,
In Lassaigne’s solution, Ferric Chloride (FeCl3) reacts with Sodium thiocyanate to give Ferric thiocyanate [Fe(CNS)3] which is blood red.
The test is usually used as a confirmatory test for organic compounds containing Nitrogen and Sulfur Compounds(essential amino acids). Blood red color indicates the formation of Ferric thiocyanate.
Hope it helped.
