What conditions must be present for transcription of the Lac Operon genes? What is the function of a repressor protein if lactose is absent?

This process of lac operon is only active when the cell doesnt have gulcose or any source of glucose but kept in the medium of lactose solution .

the function of repressor is to bind with the operator region to prevent RNA polymerase to transcribe the operon thus it inhibits the synthesis of beta -galactisidase which is responsible for breaking of disaccharide (lactose).
