1) Climate should be suitable i.e., river should not be freezed during winter.
2) Mountain areas where water falls from a height should be available.
3)Permanent supply of water should be ensured by perennial rivers.
4)Water of river should be silt free.
5)A gorge between the two hills is most suitable site for building dams.
