Another name for the Fallopian Tubes is the uterine tubes, or the oviducts. There are two.

Explanation:

One oviduct is located on each side of the female's body. It serves two purposes:
1. To transport the newly ovulated egg, or ovum, down towards the nutrient-rich, sterile, and protected uterus; and

To serve as the normal site for fertilization. That means the sperm normally will swim all the way past the uterus to 'meet' and join up with the egg in the Fallopian tube.
When that happens, a zygote, or diploid cell, results. This is the beginning of the embryo.
