The reasons for the confidence of the British ruler about their position in India before May 1875 are:
a) In the mid of 18th century the power of nawabs ,rajas, zamindars etc were eroded.
B) The freedom of the Indian rulers was reduced their Armed Forces were disbanded and their revenue and territories were taken by stages.
c) The Michal emperor had lost it control over provinces.
D) Indian princes and chiefs whom the British allowed to continue used to Side with the British during revolt before May 1857.
e) residents had been stationed in many courts by the Britisher as their representatives.
F)these residents kept informing the governor about important development in every kingdom.
so the British were very confident that their postion in India was very strong and no could challenge them in anyway before may1857
