What could possibly be a reason why two people hate each other? It's for a book I'm trying to write..

There are varying levels of negative feelings that people project onto others, all because there is something they don't understand or accept. Distaste, dislike, discomfort, unfamiliarity, stubbornness, unwillingness, closed mindedness, and selfishness, to start with, are all things that drag a person into the recesses of a prejudiced mindset.

No one person can absolutely understand another, simply because we are all individuals, with our own experiences with our own minds and bodies. We can empathize, and we can sympathize, but we cannot be the other person. Because of this, everything we think about everyone else comes with a filter. We can choose to minimize that filter, or clutter it with all sorts of opinions, and form biases. It's inevitable that we should have some skewed thinking, because we don't know everything. We can only grasp part of another person's experiences. In doing so, we can choose to relate to other groups or individuals in order to make a human connection, or disassociate ourselves from them, to appeal to our ego and distorted ideas about how we are different.

We are all guilty of these feelings regarding a minor things, and it is normal to like some people and dislike others. It's normal to admire things in others that appeal to you and not like things that don't appeal to you. However, someone who truly keeps an open mind and heart, and retains their compassion, will have no reason to hate others, even for those who commit crimes against humanity. They will instead pity.
