Okay, What Happens To You, If I Put you in a Tub and Continuously Pour a Lot Of water?? Of Course, You can't Breath And Drown Yourself.

It's The Same thing with plants, When you Put too much water The Roots Don't have Enough Space to Supply it To the Plant and, The roots Also Start Drowning This Gradually Kills the plant.
