Around first century CE, Mahayana Buddhism arose following a discovery of “hidden teachings” of Buddha. Buddhist missionaries as well as Chinese travelers spread this form of Buddhism to Nepal, China and ‘Tan” nations (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and others). Most of these ‘Tan” nations were to be converted to Islam later. From China Mahayana spread to Korea and thence to Japan.

India
A wave of conversion began, and Buddhism spread not only through India, but also internationally. Ceylon, Burma, Nepal, Tibet, central Asia, China, and Japan are just some of the regions where the Middle Path was widely accepted.
