Heya,
The basic criteria used to differentiate between living and non living organisms is their movement.
Most of the living organisms possess it .So all moving organism are living but all living organisms are not moving.
Some other criteria include respiration, digestion, nutrition, excretion .
Reproduction is also criteria which helps to continue the life and species on Earth.
Dead and non living organisms have quite similarities. Both of them do not possess movement and essential processes like digestion etc eould not take place in them.
Hope it helps u...

The fundamental criteria of something to be called as alive or dead is the metabolic reactions ... MOVEMENT .. Our body carries many of the metabolic reactions ... When we die it is due to the cease of reactions.. Our body simply become an intimate.. Also movement can be defined as the fundamental criteria as everything moves thou we can't perceive it ..in reality with our naked eyes
