Any visible movement such as walking, breathing, or growing is generally used to decide whether something is alive or not. However, a living organism can also have movements, which are not visible to the naked eye. Therefore, the presence of life processes is a fundamental criterion that can be used to decide whether something is alive or not.

we can decide whether something is alive by using the following characteristics of living things:-

1. they can move by themselves.
2. they need food air and water.
3. they can grow.
4. they can respond to changes around them
5. they perform respiration(releasjng energy from food)
6. they perfom excretion(get rid of waste materials from body)
7. they perform reproduction. they can have young ones.
