He diminished his father's share of the inheritance after he had swallowed his own.
Thousands of schemes were planned on the strength of his expected return.
When they took a trip to America they saw Jules who was selling Oysters. And the narrator father confirmed that he was the Jules.
They were visibly upset and decided that his brother-in-law's presence none of them would acknowledge uncle Jules as their family member. It would be such a shame for what they did.
