what determiners the thickness of the soil profile?

Time actually determines thickness of soil profile. Layers of sand,clay,humus,weathered rocks etc. continue to get deposited over already present layers of soil...and one layer of soil takes 100 yrs to deposit. another way is we can find by putting some soil in carbon dating.
