Temperature is the answer. The higher the temperature the greater the amount of vapor the air can hold.

'Humidity' is the 'quantity of water vapour' that is in the air.

EXPLANATION:

  • The 'maximum quantity of water vapour' which is in the air is reliant on the temperature of the air. Warmer air holds more water vapour in it. That is why the warmest days generally occur at the peak of summer heat.
  • However as the temperature decreases, the air holds less vapour and some of it converts or changes into liquid water. The 'quantity of water vapour' in the 'air' is referred to as 'absolute humidity'.
  • The 'quantity of water vapour' in the 'air' when compared to the 'quantity of water' which the air can hold is referred to as 'relative humidity'. This 'amount of space in air' which hold water changes dependent upon the 'pressure and temperature'.
