As you might be knowing flow of electrons (drift) cause current to flow in a conductor or resistor, it the way they colloid with the atom of resistor causing to release energy en the form of heat and hence energy loss occurs.

Hence resistance having larger cross section area have less resistance as it decrease the rate of collision and also resistor have longer length have larger resistance and electrons have to encounter larger obstacle
