I don't know about any device but you should refer to the concept of rotation to understand the occurence of day and night. The part of earth (when it is rotating on its axis) which faces the sun, receives the maximum light of the sun and therefore that part experiences daytime and vice versa. The part which is not facing the sun experiences night time. I hope it will be helpful :)
