during the Second World War the tamarind seeds became popular in the markets so he would collect the seeds and sell it in the shop near his house and would about one anna per day even during the second World War the halt of train at the rameswaram station was suspended so his cousin samsuddin took help from Abdul kalam for catching the newspaper bundles which would be thrown out from the moving train and with this Abdul kalam earned his first time in his life and he would also hear about the second World War from jalaluddin and later he came to know about it from the newspaper named DINAMANI
Abdul Kalam was 8 years old when the second World war broke out in 1939. He found that the demand for tamarind seeds increased so he used to collect the seeds and sell them to a provision shop located in Mosque Street. He used to get 1 anna (six paise) per day, which was a lot of money at that time.
His brother Jalaluddin used to tell him stories about the second World War and he used to search for the same stories is the newspaper "Dinamani".
Rameshwaram, where he used to stay, was not affected by the war at first but later when India was forced to join the Allied Forces, the state of emergency was declared.
The first impact of the the world war was that the trains from India which used to stop at Rameshwaram and then went to Dhanushkodi stopped halting at the Rameshwaram station. Due to this reason the newspapers were thrown from the moving train.
Samsuddin, Abdul Kalam's cousin, who used to distribute newspapers in Rameshwaram then needed a helping hand to catch the newspapers. So, Kalam joined his brother and helped him catch the papers in return of which Samsuddin paid him a salary which was his first earning.
