apartheid was policy of social discrimination on the basis colour( blacks and coloured). Nelson mandela(1st pm of south africa) protest against it and he was sent to the prison for 28 years and after went out from prison, a constitution was formed in south Africa and Nelson mandela was chosen as a Prime minister of south africa.

As protests and strugglers against apartheid had increased, the government realised that they could no longer keep the blacks under their rule through repression. Finally at midnight of 26th April 1994, the Republic of South Africa got freedom from apartheid.
