In the story 'The third level', the third level of the Grand Central Railway station is the turning point of the story leaving it to an open end.
Charley had accidentally discovered the the third level of the railway station. At this level he found himself completely lost in another world.
It appeared that he was on a 'time machine' which had transported him to the nineteenth century.

Women too were strangely dressed in high boots and peculiar dresses.
Papers , currency, style all were different in the third level.
