After learning swimming, Douglas wanted to ensure he had no fear of water in his heart. So he tested his skills at various water bodies. He decided he would cross Lake Wentworth. As he reached the middle of the lake, he put his face underwater and saw nothing but bottomless water. The old fear seemed to return. But Douglas laughed at the fear and continued swimming and reached the other shore.
