He held offices regarding India's national and international affairs. In 1931, Dr. RadhaKrishnan received a knighthood, in 1954 he received Bharat Ratna and in 1963 he was awarded the Order of Merit. Dr. Radhakrishnan also served as the Ambassador of India to U.S.S.R. during 1949-52.He was the first Indian to be appointed the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu university. In 1938, he was elected as a fellow of the British academy. In 1947, he represented India at UNESCO. Radhakrishnan was elected the first Vice President of India in 1952.
