First, Dr Sadao decided to get rid of the young American by agreeing the plan of the General of killing him in his sleep by some assassins. However the assassins never came.

Then he decided to get rid of the American by secretly sending him to an isolated with food, water, clothes, blanket and a flashlight which was owned by the doctor himself. He did it so that the American can board a Korean ship to freedom and safety.

Dr. Sadao was a man of considerate nature. He had given lease of life to the wounded enemy soldier at the risk of his life instead of killing him he gave him the treatment and after the treatment Dr. Sadao arranged a boat with food and clothes in it so that he can send the enemy back to the nearby island.
