They would try to find gold and spices. Spices were from india and they sold for a lot meaning people would want to sell them for high amounts of profit.  They wanted gold because it was worth alot and a very sacred. They tryed to get these things by traveling around and establishing colonies to find what they wanted. In this process they decided to kill many native people in order to get what they wanted.
