His experiment: (1) he placed a ball on an inclined plane and observed that the ball rolled downwards and kept on rolling after it leaves the inclined plane.
(2) he now placed a ball on a horizontal plane and observed that the ball did not move at all.
His conclusion: if a body is in motion or at rest it continues to be in motion or at rest unless compelled by some external force.
