Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi(1869-1948)fought for legitimate rights of farmers of “Champaran” area who were not allowed by the British administration to grow food crops.
He was informed of this by Rajen Babu,a lawyer of that area.
Gandhiji, with his previous experience with civil disobedience in South Africa, struggled here against the British , disobeying expulsion orders by the District Magistrate.
He collected public opinion by way of petitions to submit to the Bengal Governor.
