what did john byro mean when he said "A suspicious man would belive hos eyes instead of his heart"?

When the boys met John byro, he recognised the horse and asked if he could see the teeth of the horse.. The number of teeth the horse which the brothers had was same as the horse which John had owned. He had known that the boys were of the gargoglanian tribe and thought that the tribe which is known for its honesty would ever steal a horse.
That is when he says that if a person is suspicious about something he would only believe what he sees but if he is not suspicious he would trust the heart. He had no suspicious views about the boys. He trusted the boys.

A suspicious man will trust the thing that is available before him and in John Byro's case, he could have blamed Aram and Mourad for stealing his horse in light of the fact that the one which they had was similar to his stolen horse...Yet, Byro was not suspicious, he knew that the boys' family was famous for their honesty so he believed in what he knew by heart and not what was in front of his eyes...
