Mandela had been imprisoned for raising his voice against the system of apartheid and demanding justice and equality for colored people. Inside the jail, at times some guard would treat him kindly and show kindness to him. This gave Mandela faith in humanity and hope for better times ahead. Believing in this hope he continued his struggle.
