Answer:

Mrs Shaw was tidying up the house as Mrs Harding and her sister-in law Mrs Lee were

coming for a visit. Mrs Harding had just bought a house in Lanfield. Before buying a house

there, Mrs Harding lived in London. Both the ladies had met each other in a shop the

previous day and the former had invited her home.

Mrs. Shaw while tidying the house instructed her daughter to remove the coat that was kept

on the chair as she did not want her guests to see her house in a haphazard manner. Her

daughter, Mary was well known for her talkative behaviour and spoke things that many

people did not like to listen. Mrs. Shaw wanted to make more friends in Lanfield and was

worried that if her daughter said anything wrong it may affect her image and decrease the

chances of having a better social circle.

However Mrs Shaw's daughter insisted that she would like to stay back and assured her

mother that she would not talk unnecessarily. But when the guests arrived, Mary started

talking things that were irrelevant and embarrassing to both Mrs. Harding and Mrs. Lee.

Finally, the guests left without spending much time at Mrs Shaw's place.
