Even while Pakistan was getting modern weapons from its western allies, when China was building up massive weaponry, even after we discovered that China had occupied the barren Aksai Chin plateau.

During the Korean war, the US was contemplating nuking North Korea and the Chinese forces supporting them. Nehru pleaded with America to desist from that, horrified at the thought of what would happen if the Soviets retaliated. He was always against the build up of military forces anywhere in the world, saying all disputes can be negotiated across the table.
