Newton demonstrated by his experiment with rhe prism that a white light is a band of seven colours i.e. VIBGYOR.
A ray of light after passing through a prism gets splitted in a band of seven colour because of the fact that all seven colour travels with different speed in the prism, hence a deviated differently.
