The poet noticed that her mother had dozed off and looked almost like a corpse, her face was colourless and had lost the spark of life. There was an expression of pain on her wrinkled face caused by the worries and anxieties of life. This sight of grayish pale face of her mother triggers off the poet's fear about her mother's impending death.
