Santosh Yadav's longing to learn mountaineering was becoming intenser with each passing day. She began saving money to learn mountaineering. When she had saved enough, she enrolled  in a course of professional training for mountaineering at Uttarkashi’s Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.

At the training, she learnt many qualities such as resistance to cold and the altitude, iron will, physical endurance and an amazing mental toughness.
