to repress the revolt of 1857 British brought their reinforcements from England and passed new laws so that the Rebels can be convicted with ease and then it captured Delhi in September 1857 .They tried Bahadur Shah Zafar the last Mughal emperor in to court and sentenced to life imprisonment as Bahadur Shah Zafar played the important role in that revolt with his wife Begum Zeenat Mehal in October 1858 . After the recapture of Delhi people continued to resist the Battle . The British had also to fight for two years to suppress the massive force . then the British captured Lucknow in March 1858 and killed Rani Lakshmibai in June 1858 . They also killed Tantia Tope in Guerilla war in April 1859 . after the revolt, the British announced rewards for those who could remain faithful to them and they declared that those who rebelled and had not killed and invite people they would be safe and their rights over their land would not be denied .
